Overview
Embark on a scenic 3 or 4.5-hour catamaran tour from Tenerife’s south coast to see whales and dolphins in their natural habitat. Enjoy drinks, snacks, and a refreshing swim stop during this eco-friendly, guided marine adventure perfect for families, couples, and nature lovers.
Highlights
- Whale Watching – Guaranteed. Sail through the bountiful waters between Tenerife and La Gomera, home to pilot whales, bottlenose dolphins and 17 other species. Thanks to sophisticated sonar and the crew’s know-how, sightings are virtually unavoidable.
- Two Different Tours (Pick Your Own Adventure!). Choose a 3-hour tour of the Costa Adeje coast with a swim stop at Diego Hernández beach, or go all in with a 4.5-hour experience taking in the breathtaking Los Gigantes cliffs and Masca Bay, including lunch and swimming time.
- All-Inclusive Experience. Enjoy unlimited drinks onboard (water, soft drinks, beer, wine), plus snacks or a full meal depending on your tour. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available—just let them know when booking.
- Free Collection from Hotels in North & South Tenerife. Whether you’re staying in the south or the north (including Puerto de la Cruz), you’ll be picked up and dropped off at your accommodation, making the experience totally hassle-free.
- Spacious & Comfortable Catamarans. Relax on wide open decks with 360° ocean views. Want extra comfort? Rent a cushioned sunbed on board and enjoy the ride in style.
- Eco-Friendly & Educational. Freebird Catamaran is a part of Tenerife’s official sustainable tourism program. The multilingual staff are friendly and passionate about the marine life you see — and love sharing fun facts with you along the way.
- Sail Power & Peaceful Moments. When the wind is right, Freebird sails without engines. It’s a unique chance to feel the ocean breeze, hear only the waves, and enjoy a quiet, eco-conscious ride through the Atlantic.
Important details and advisements
- Prepare for the Sun. Tenerife has a strong year-round sunshine record. And bring sunscreen (including for lips), sunglasses and a hat. That could lead to sunburn, which can happen quickly on the water.
- Swimwear and Towels. If you plan to go for a swim during the swim stop, be sure to have your swimsuit and towel with you. The clothes you’ll also want onboard because you’ll want comfortable clothes and non-slip shoes.
- Motion Sickness Prevention. If you get seasick, we highly recommend taking preventative medication before the tour. Better to err on the side of caution and experience it all.
- Weather-Dependent Tours. Some boat trips are weather dependent. In the event your tour is cancelled because of inclement weather, you will have the choice to either be rescheduled or have a full refund granted.
- Punctuality & Parking. Arriving by car? Arrive early — parking at Puerto Colón is scarce and goes fast. At least 15–20 minutes before your departure time is advised.
- Hotel Pick-Up Info. This includes pick-up from chosen hotels. If its service isn’t available to you, you’ll have to head straight to Puerto Colón, Dock 10 or 15. Pick-ups typically take place about one hour before departure.
- Accessibility. Regrettably, this activity is not appropriate for guests with impaired mobility who are unable to walk up a gangplank. Swimming skills are also needed for those who plan to get in the water.
- Booking & Cancellations. It’s cancellable for a full refund up to 24 hours before the tour. Late cancellations or no-shows are non-refundable. Note: Always check local time zones when managing bookings.
- What to Bring. Have your ID or passport, booking confirmation (handy or printed) and a camera if you want to take the memories.
- Children & Supervision. An adult must always supervise children. Age restrictions might apply to certain excursions — check tour details beforehand.

Tour program
Experience a hassle-free start to your journey with comfortable, air-conditioned transfers from your hotel. Freebird provide free pick up service from the south and north of Tenerife so where ever you are staying at, we will come for you.
After selecting your preferred tour, we will then confirm your nearest pick-up point and time. All transfers are planned so you can arrive at the harbour calm and prepared to embark.
Upon boarding the large catamaran at Puerto Colón you are welcomed by our extremely friendly and professional crew. The Freebirds are modern sailing catamarans optimized for refined comfort and serenity — when the wind allows, up go the sails, and we slide silently over the blue. On calm days, the quiet engines make for a peaceful ride.
To make your experience even more comfortable you will have plenty of seating areas, sunbeds, bathrooms, a fresh-water shower and an open bar. A swim platform at the stern makes it simple to jump into the sea during planned swim stops.
This shorter alternative is ideal for those looking for a fun but speedy voyage. Sailing the beautiful coastline of Costa Adeje you have several chances to see pilot whales and dolphins in their own environment.
You’ll also enjoy a refreshing swim stop by the beautiful Diego Hernández beach, a serene bay ideal for a swim.
The tour, which also includes unlimited soft drinks, water, beer and a light sandwich snack served onboard, makes for a full experience in just three hours.
Want to make it a more epic journey? This 4.5-hour tour takes you farther along the dramatic southwest coast of Tenerife. You’ll spend more time at sea, which means your odds of seeing various whale and dolphin species improve.
They stop at the stunning cliffside of Los Gigantes and a swim stop in the turquoise waters near Masca Bay, one of the island’s most famous spots.
While on board, savor a freshly prepared meal consisting say, rice and vegetables, chicken meatballs, local bread, and a sweet Canarian banana. As usual, beer, soft drinks and water will be available at any point during the tour — and included in the price.
As your catamaran heads back toward Puerto Colón, you’ll have one last opportunity to take in the wide-angle views. If you are lucky, on clear days you might even spot La Gomera Island or Mount Teide in the distance.
Back at the harbor, a transfer bus awaits where you can travel comfortably back to your hotel.

We did the 3-hour boat tour and had a great time! The guide was super knowledgeable and shared some really interesting facts during the trip. The whole crew was friendly and professional, which made the experience even better.
We saw a family of pilot whales—including some adorable babies—which was definitely the highlight! After that, we stopped in a beautiful bay where we had the chance to swim.
Snacks on board were simple (just a ham and cheese sandwich), but the drinks were included and served quickly. Just a heads-up: ice cream is available, but it costs an extra €3.
We had a fantastic time out on the water – breezy, a bit of waves, and lots of fun! If you’re prone to seasickness, just a heads-up: it can get a little rocky. We were lucky enough to spot some whales, which was an unforgettable experience.
We tried both the shorter 3-hour tour and the longer 4.5-hour one. Personally, we enjoyed the longer trip more – there was more time to explore, we got a delicious lunch onboard, and all drinks were included. Definitely worth it!
